WHAT IF EVERY THING YOU THOUGHT YOU KNEW WAS WRONG?
Think about it.
This is a question that could change your life
For better or worse
Try not to ask yourself right before bedtime.
It will keep you up all night.
It did me.
I asked myself the question.
It was a couple of years ago,
I was in the middle of the West Texas desert,
It was night, and granted, I had had a couple of beers, but I went to the desert to get away from all of the distractions of day to day life, because I had questions, lots of them, but I had no idea what the answers would be, and the answers I did have were the wrong ones.
So I started thinking in a series of “What if’s”
And I started writing them down.
Some of them are a little silly
And I would like to apologize in advance
I am not a copywriter
Or an English Professor
So I would like to apologize again
For any literary incorrectness (if that’s a word)
This is my open letter to the Universe.
What if success was measured by how tall or short you were?
What if beauty wasn’t in the eye of the beholder?
What if the grass wasn’t greener on the other side of the fence?
What if grass wasn’t green at all? Maybe it’s blue, and the sky is green.
And the air we breathe, what if clean air is causing us to die a slow death?
What if veggies were terrible for us,
And if we really wanted to get in shape
We would sit on our asses and eat ice cream
There’s a saying:
“If at first you don’t succeed, try try again”
WHAT IF YOU ONLY GET ONE CHANCE?
What if your first time was your last time.
Would you try your hardest?
Would you let failure even be an option?
What if, instead of going from point A to point B
there was no point B, and we just kept going Aaaaaaaaaaaaa…
Think outside of the box?
What if, what if there was no proverbial box for us to think outside of?
Would the sky be the limit?
Or would it be space?
Or would it just Beeeeeeeeeee…
WE DON’T TRAIN OUR PETS. THEY TRAIN US.
Speaking of pets, what if dogs didn’t chase squirrels,
What if they were chasing their nuts instead?
Would that make them crazy?
What if Code was Poetry
Would you consider your style
To be or not to be Shakespeare
eeeeeeeeecummings or Edgar Allan Poe
My style is Whitman, I think, I know.
What if, when beans make us gassy,
we were able to stick a hose in our butts
and fill up our cars
We have perfected solar powered calculators
Why can’t we figure out solar powered laptop computers
Or tablet devices
Or mobile phones
WHAT IF THE INTERNET WAS ALL IN OUR HEADS?
What if beauty wasn’t wasted on the youth
what if we didn’t even know what beauty was
until we turned 60
What if your Father really didn’t know best?
What if when your parents said:
“This is going to hurt me, more than it is you…”
What if our dreams were real
And the only time we were really awake
Was when we were really asleep
What if life really was fair
What if good guys finished first all the time
What if crime really did pay
And politicians really were honest
What if there wasn’t someone for everyone
What if there was no point
What if it was a pointer instead
What if it were pointing at you
Would you put your hands up
Or would you reach your hands out
Would you ask for forgiveness
What if, just when you thought you had all the answers
You found out, all this time, you were asking the wrong questions
